Skating Shoes?

I want Dr Martens but at its price, it would be such an impractical purchase for me especially since I wouldn't be able to wear it on regular days (read: corporate dress code). Luckily, I mentioned my shoe-lust to Ninin and she told me to check out Gold Dot because they're selling several boot styles. I did and I ended up buying something that loosely looks like the tough Dr. Martens boots...

A pair of Brandy Boots!

Okay, okay, the heels add to the girly-ness of the shoes but at least its leather and it has hardware! Still, I don't know why but it sorta reminds me of the ice skating shoes. Maybe it's because of the shoelaces? Or of the shape?

Now all that's left for me to do is figure out what to wear the boots with.

Etude House purchases

I dropped by Etude House's Megamall branch last Friday and sort of broke a promise I made to myself. I think I went on a shopping spree. Here's a snapshot of what I purchased.

Products bought were (clockwise):
1. Fresh Cherry Tint in Red, Peach and Pink
I've been looking for a new lip tint because the product with the color that perfectly matches me seems to have been pulled out (bummer!). There's a lot of buzz online that the Etude cheek/lip tints, at such low prices, are wonderfully pigmented. I bought the 3 shades so I can try all of it. What's my verdict? The red is a bit too loud for me, I gave it to my sister who's much younger than me. Her age would let her pull off the vibrant shade. The pink and peach shades had very little effect on my lips. But between the two, I prefer the peach shade more.

2. Yogurt Peel Cleansing Foam in Super Berry Mix
The SA said this is for those with normal skin. I tried using it but after 2 separate uses, my face felt itchy and really tight. I decided to stop using it. Just an advice: Try this product with caution. If you easily get allergic to face products, think very hard before you purchase. It'd be quite hard to decide since the explanation at the back isn't in English.

3. Gray shimmer nail polish
I'm still on the lookout for the perfect gray shade for me. I know, gray nail polish is no longer the 'it' color of the season, but what the heck, I love gray! Can't review this yet, haven't tried it :)

4. Blackhead nose scrubber
I. LOVE. THIS. PRODUCT. It's a super soft silicon scrubber which you wear on your fingers to cleanse the nose area where most blackheads gather. Use with your mild face scrub to exfoliate your nose. A disclaimer though, I'm no good at judging if the amount of blackheads on my nose really did lessen (haha, TMI?). I just love the product because it's really soft and not irritating to the skin.

P.S. The moistfull mask is a freebie.
P.P.S. So sorry, I don't know how much each item costs because I lost my receipt.
P.P.P.S. Etude House is at the Lower Ground Mega A SM Megamall (near the old Toy Kingdom)

The good life at Balai Isabel

This weekend, our Office went to Talisay, Batangas for our team building activity. I know, I know, team buildings don't sound too cool, but wait 'til you see where we went:

Paradise!
Welcome to Club Balai Isabel!

Club Balai Isabel is a resort overlooking Taal Lake. It has recently been made famous by Oyo Boy and Kristine's wedding which they staged at the picturesque location.

Really, the place is something! I like it too since it's not very congested yet and it has this air of exclusivity and posh-ness. Could totally imagine the "diplomatic wife" vacationing here. *wink!

Couldn't resist adding this! Jumpshoots look so much cooler when your backdrop is to-die-for!
...and because our schedule was packed and I only had pictures of our team building sessions, let me just leave you with some of my vanity shots at Balai:

Haha, no, I didn't wear my shirt like this, I just did  so for this shot. The backdrop was just calling for it!

Life before airplanes..

Back in the day, traveling by plane was a luxury that only the extremely rich could afford. But way before the airplanes existed, the only means for a group of people to travel via air was through hot air balloons!

We got invited to see the 16th Hot Air Balloon Fiesta last Sunday but we arrived a little after 8 AM. We didn't get to see the morning show since the balloons were scheduled to leave at 6 AM. So to take advantage of the extra time we had, our family friends toured us around Clark!

Let's have a little History lesson, shall we? For those of you who don't know, Clark used to be the Air Force Base of the Americans here in the Philippines (while Subic used to be the Naval Base). The Japanese, who also used this place when they invaded our country, left us a little something something. They built a shrine of peace probably as a sign of truce and harmony. Okay, so, the Americans came back but after Mt. Pinatubo erupted, the Americans left Clark. The Filipinos then started to use the place as a base.

Enough with the history lessons, you're probably wondering where the balloons are. You see, the wind was too strong and the night was a bit too cold for the balloons to stay open for long. So, I was only able to witness these:

Of course, I couldn't end this post without sharing what I wore to the festival. Here goes...

I'm walking away

As you may all know, I'm not too keen on wearing flats, but I do make exceptions on occasions I really MUST wear comfortable shoes OR at times the shoes are just to die for!

Me and this new pair was again, a match made in shoe heaven! It was love at first sight! I saw this on the mannequin and I couldn't get my mind off it! It was THE running shoes for me. But like I said, I don't really like wearing flats and the hefty price tag on the pair was a little too much. So I went home to sleep on it--but sleep I couldn't do! I had the extreme urge to go back immediately and buy it!

Ahhh.. the color just makes me so happy!

Shorts: True Love
Running shoes: Nike

To end this entry, let me leave you some thoughts.

Sometimes, you don't have to face your problems (or the cause of your problems) head on, there are instances you just have to turn around and walk away. As Mr. Craig David puts it:

I'm walking away from the troubles in my life
I'm walking away, to find a better day

And oh, if you must walk away, do so with nice shoes too. *wink!

Kissable

I have a weird fixation for lips. One of the things I gravitate to when talking to someone are his/her lips. I just find it extremely fascinating and beautiful especially when one talks.

Because of my fixation on lips, I also tend to get a bit OC when it comes to my own. I exfoliate all the time and I try very much to keep it soft and smooth to touch. However, since I 'discovered' lipstick, my lips would sometimes dry up or chap. I hate when that happens so I try not to wear any lipstick at all. But growing up necessitates doing grown up things, one of them is wearing make up; wearing lipstick.

It took me a lot of tries and a lot of periods of having chapped lips but I think I found the perfect non-drying, non-chapping, moisturizing lipstick! Presenting, my current favorite lippy: Elianto's Moisturizing Lipgloss (so okay, it's technically not a lipstick. or is it?) in Melon Orange:

I love how sleek it is. The packaging is so pretty!
The color is also perfect! I tried different shades from the same line but this one is the most perfect of all.
I really like how it doesn't dry my lips and actually even made it softer and smooth
Ta-dah! Kissable!
Elianto is available in all Watson's branches and has outlets in major malls :)

Leaning Eiffel Tower

Celebrated my aunt's birthday last Saturday. I wanted to wear something really feminine. I initially wanted to wear heels with the outfit but the skirt kept riding up (and so it felt like I was showing my bum to the entire nation). The pictures don't show how short the skirt really is 'coz I think I pulled it down a bit before the pics were taken.

Sweets for my sweet, honey for my water!

One of our dear readers wondered (ahem, thanks aka Procne, ahem) if honey water is beneficial too, like lemon water. After a little research, I found several benefits of drinking honey water. But before we start with the benefits you must know that it's best if the honey that you use is organic (not over processed and over filtrated). Okay, now read on to find out all about its wonderful advantages..

1. Good for sore throats
Honey is a great antioxidant and has anti-bacterial properties. Thanks to its antimicrobial action, it not only soothes sore throats but can also kill the bacteria that sometimes cause them.

2. Good for hangovers
With a specific formulation of blended honey, orange juice and natural yogurt, you can have a sobering agent. Honey is great for speeding up the oxidation of alcohol by the liver because it is high in fructose.

Honey is wonderful in the sense that it usually plays dual extreme functions. Such as numbers 3 and 4:

3. It can improve your bowel movement (both diarrhea and constipation!).
To relieve constipation, try mixing honey with lemon and water or honey with milk. To stop diarrhea, some sites suggest mixing 4 tablespoons of honey with water.

4. It can be used as a sleep aid or as an energy drink.
Can't sleep? Try drinking a glass of hot milk with a teaspoon of honey OR chamomile tea with 1 or 2 teaspoons of honey.

I find honey as a sleep aid very interesting because honey's composition makes it exceptionally good as an energy booster. The glucose it contains is easily absorbed by the body and gives an immediate energy boost. Its fructose, on the other hand, is absorbed more slowly thus provides the much wanted and needed sustained energy.

Need the energy? Take a spoonful of honey, spread it on your toast OR put it in your tea to help you have the energy you need.

5. When combined with lemon, it is great for weight loss
I'm guessing it's good for weight loss because it helps you go number 2. But apparently, its effects on the liver which speeds up our metabolism and on the stomach which it assists to improve our digestion are big factors why people lose weight with a lemon+honey water detox diet.

6. Good for curing bad breath, skin infections and acne!
The combination of honey and cinnamon is believed to cure a handful of ailments. Three of the ailments it can cure are bad breath, skin infections and acne.

My office mate told me earlier that I'm getting fat. Now all this research got me wondering...what if I try the honey + lemon + water diet? Hmm...

How about you? Do you think it's worth a try?

Party animal

For our 'Winter Glam' Fellowship Night in Baguio, we were required to wear a white top, a bonnet and/or a scarf. What I wore wasn't that glam but here it is..

Had to blur my officemates for privacy reasons (both theirs and mine). I didn't ask for permission to have their pictures posted here hence the pixelation overload.

Black flats// Cole Vintage

Off topic: Argh. I'm not liking my hair in the pictures. I really need a haircut or another digiperm or probably both. Rar. Must figure out my sched so I can have my hair done.

On our last day in Baguio, we went to the prerequisite pasalubong stops and the renowned thrift shops. It was only my second time to go to the thrift shops a.k.a. wagwagan a.k.a. ukay-ukay. The first time I went there, I was in high school and we went crazy for flowy skirts. This time, I went with my toy-collector officemates and saw these..

Had a really great time in the City of Pines. Loved the weather, the party, and most of all, the company! That's why I'm partly looking forward to our next Division Trip.. What's next? Sea,sun, and sand? :) *Keeping my fingers and legs crossed!*

Blue girl with green feet

Realized I haven't worn this green socks with any of my "regular" outfits yet so this became the inspiration for my outfit:

One of my favorite color combination is green and blue. I don't know why but I just like the unexpected pairing of the two. I am also always reminded of the sea and being a Pisces, I have an innate connection with bodies of water (or is it just me?).
This mini dress is from three years back. I haven't worn it for years that seeing it again was like seeing an old friend ;)

Animal instincts

Stayed at the City of Pines for a few days. I was glad I wore this thick sweater dress on our second day because it got really cold when it started raining. Still, I'm glad it rained 'coz the fog graced us with its presence (a nice touch to our Baguio experience, I must say).

Rosy and white

I didn't get to mention on my Pasinaya post that we also attended Mass that day (remember, it was a Sunday!). Since church rules dictate the wearing of "appropriate attires" to church, I had to bring with me a change of clothes for mass.

Ta-dah! Hahaha! Okay, I cheated a bit. It's sort of a "trench coat" disguising as a dress. I literally put it on top of my cropped top and shorts. A changed of shoes to complete the look and voila! Church-appropriate ;)

So excited to wear my new shoes! They're one of the few "dainty" shoes in my closet so you could only imagine how excited I am to wear it out. The zebra stripes add just the right amount of pizazz to it, donchathink? :)

...and off to church I go!

Azkals FTW!

I am still stunned at how I am here in Manila and not in Bacolod right now to watch the Azkals play. W-H-Y??

I heard this is their official logo. People in Bacolod are asked to wear white to show their support for the team. White shirts with this logo is being sold at Panaad Stadium right this moment! Que horror! I'm here, they're there! Now, I can't get my hands on one! huhu :(
Since I have to live through my frustration, watching them on the telly would have to do.

Studio 23 will be airing the game tonight LIVE at 7:00-9:30pm! Guess who will be rushing home today? :P

Fight Azkals fight! ONE BIG BITE!

Off to the City of Pines

Chances are, I'm on my way to the City of Pines as you guys are reading this. I heard that it's 11 degrees there right now so I prepped and brought these..

Any idea as to what these are? :)

Will try to do some outfit posts...no promises though as our itinerary is jam-packed and the trip is OB afterall. Hehe.

Crush crush crush

"I noticed your eyes are always glued to me
Keeping them here and it makes no sense at all"
-Crushcrushcrush, Paramore

Been extra gloomy this weekend that going to the CCP for Pasinaya was my only saving grace. Although the whole event was meant to be festive and colorful, I found myself gravitating towards dark denims and angst-y pieces. Ha! The rocker chick look will always be my favorite :P

The whole complex was crazy full of people, it didn't matter what you do. It was really like one huge festival of sorts! I especially enjoyed how my cousin and I got to flop down on the sidewalk without it looking out of the ordinary. Really, rare moments like that are my favorites :)

Sorry for my background. As I said there were a lot of people in the area and I felt a bit shy to do my "poses", hence the open car door. Haha :P

Cropped top- My Arte Ako (cropped it myself)
High waisted shorts - Taylor & Co.
Denim zip up boots - Parisian

So how was Pasinaya 2011? One word:  uh-mazing! It's like one big school fair difference being that all the performances are top class!

I especially love how everywhere you go, there's something going on. A dance group suddenly performs on the side street, or you suddenly bump into characters in Spartan costumes or chance upon a fat guy in a dress. It's like being in a circus!-- only, there are no freaks, just incredibly talented Filipino artists! :)
