Happy H-owl-loween!

We had a mini makeshift Halloween party at a friend's house this weekend and despite how simple it was, we had so much fun!

We chose to go al fresco and decorated the back yard with simple Halloween decor. Most of the designs were hand made because we had no budget plus I was still in my artsy fartsy phase. Lol!

Another cool part about this party is that the food were all vegetarian friendly! We had pesto pasta (not in picture), Yellow Cab's Dear Darla pizza, Twice baked potato halves, Fried dynamites,  Oreo cake and cake pops! For a group of four, we sure had a lot of food!

We played around with handmade owl masks which completed our h-OWL-loween theme!
My friend also remembered she had a blonde Hannah Montana wig which we went crazy with!

Guess whoooo?

 We were laughing so hard!

We had such a great time at our mini party. We cooked our food, had booze and stayed up past midnight just chatting about random stuff. Really, you don't need to spend a lot for fun-- heck, you don't even have to spend a lot or plan much to throw your own party! All you need is a little creativity and the immense desire to party! Lol!

Happy Halloween you guys!

MUST watch: Tiktik

...because I think this film deserves a blog post. TMF readers, we highly recommend you watch Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles.

I thought it was a horror movie but much more than just a movie, it is Pinoy film-making at its best!

The really unique thing about it is that it shot entirely on a green screen. So the background and everything is digitally created. If you've seen the film Sin City, you'd get what I mean.

The scenes and colors are so beautiful! It's such a new and refreshing concept. The plot was simple yet it was so hilarious! The acting was also simple yet extremely believable we found ourselves getting so into each character. I personally laughed a lot the entire film! It was funny but not cheesy funny. It was just so natural!

We absolutely loved the film! If this is the future of Pinoy films, then we say the future is very very bright! Congratulations to everyone behind Tiktik! Our hats off to you!

TMF rating: 10/10 stars!

Owl-ed

I always find great joy in artistic projects especially when it involves anything cute and whimsical. That's why I'm particularly excited about our newest party project for my business Chorchi's -- an owl-themed party!

If you follow me on Instagram, you've probably seen these photos already.

We experimented on felt invitations. These double as cell phone holders as well. Love the different owl designs. So cute!
Also experimented on owl "vases" the other day and came  up with that. Imagine these filled with daisies! So cute! I am enjoying this "experimenting" thing because it stretches my creativity and allows me to create stuff I've never tried before.
I also like that it takes my mind off work and school. It's been so long since I last hanged out in Starbucks with papers and pencils. Normally, I'd have a book or readings with me. It's such a nice break from all the stress :)

So nice to have a business that allows you to follow your passions. When you're a young professional, there comes a time when your work routine starts to bore you and you have to find other distractions-- well here's mine :)

To all young professionals out there, don't let your day job keep you from pursuing your passions. Don't let the corporate world consume you and milk you dry.You don't need to resign or do anything too drastic. Just believe that you can have the best of both worlds.

Good luck my dear co-yuppies!

Piper's Caramel Apple Cupcakes

...And the cupcake story continues!
The box of 6 is missing one flavor! Guess what that is? hehe

My colleague gave me cupcakes from Piper's Sweet Tooth and I found myself getting hooked on their Caramel Apple Cupcake!
I've never eaten a caramel apple cupcake before so I have no point of reference but it is so tasty I can only say good things about it.
The thing that got my attention was the apple filling inside the cupcake. I was pleasantly surprised to find that moist part inside. I also liked that the frosting is not too sweet. The caramel, butter cream, cinnamon apple and moist cake made for a wonderfully made cupcake! Yum!
Found this picture in their Facebook page and I couldn't resist! A rack of caramel apple cupcakes! Oh joy!

Cheese on Cheese

I am very picky when it comes to my red velvets. There are only a very few that pass my standards and yet I feel like I still haven't found that perfect red velvet cake/cupcake that I love-- until I got a taste of Nibbles' Double Cheese Red Velvet Cupcakes.

My friend let me taste Nibbles' cupcake and truth be told, I was not very excited. Like I said, I'm very picky with my red velvets. When I first tasted this, I said it was "okay" but a few days after, I found myself craving its taste and that's when  I realized I LOVED IT. I know, I'm weird like that but really, for me, the gauge of whether anything is any good is if I remember it. Well, I didn't just remember these cupcakes from Nibbles, I even started craving it!
One of the things that I am particular about is how moist the cupcakes are. I like my cupcakes soft and moist. I mean, cupcakes are mini cakes and cakes are supposed to be soft and fluffy. If a cupcake is not that, then I think it should be called a muffin instead.

Nibbles by Nao'mi Matsuda Monzon has the tastiest "cake" part in a red velvet. It is so good! It's not too sweet and it's moist and really tasty! You can eat it on its own even without the frosting-- but no. You must not skip out on the frosting!

The frosting is where the Gods live. Cream Cheese frosting with grated cheese on top-- oh heavens rejoice! I gave away a bunch of these to my colleagues and my boss commented how the cupcakes are layers and layers of indulgence-- yummy red velvet cake, perfect cream cheese frosting and more cheese! How can you resist?

I think the appeal with these cupcakes is that you don't immediately think they're great but then the taste becomes unforgettable and you just can't keep your mind off it. And if you know me well enough, you know how I get obsessed with things. Like how I'm obsessed over the taste of these! So good!

Still, I feel a bit disappointed that the recipe changed. The one my friend gave me had more cheese. In fact, I checked Nao's page just to verify if there's actually any change in the recipe and sadly, there is :(

See how those look more indulgent? I loved how I was able to bite into the cheese. Unlike the ones I got where the cheese were grated really thinly. I think because it looks "messy" but no! I like messy. Plus cheesy messy is always good! So please Nao, make 'em like you did before! So yummy!

I cannot wait to order more! If you want your own, email Nao'mi at bits_and_nibbles@yahoo.com!

When the wedding bells ring

I realized attending weddings come at certain periods in your lifetime--(1) during your childhood when you'd always get invited as the flower girl; (2) during your 20's when your friends start to get married themselves; and (3) your early to late 40's when people ask you to be their godmothers.

I'm now in my 20's and I'm starting to see how weddings will soon be filling my social calendar. Here's what I wore to a friend's wedding last Sunday:

Was feeling really girly and so I opted for this teal peplum dress and layered a thin cardi with lace detail on top. I kept everything else simple because I didn't want to be all "made up" for the wedding, especially since it was set at noon. The only downside to this outfit is that my dress was the same color as the bridesmaids! *gasp!* Thank God I had on the pink details. Hihi :P

We didn't get to take a lot of pictures at the church and even at the reception (kind of forgot we had a camera), and so we went a bit crazy taking photos at the parking lot.

We also did our take of an "after party" in the back of an suv scenario, while channeling our inner gossip girls.

Congratulations to the newly weds, Kath and George! Cheers to your new journey as a married couple! :)

Breakfast, anyone?

Guess you know how I have this penchant for Indie films. I just really like the "uncommercial", artistic appeal of independent movies. I especially like indie films that are not too "artsy" per se. I think it's more difficult to produce something simple --if you know what I mean.

I share this liking for Indie movies with a good friend and one of the most memorable foreign Indie film we watched together is Flakes. It's a movie that stars Zooey Deschanel and talks about cereals.

Flakes is a feel-good Saturday-afternoon-spent-at-home kind of film. It's simple and yet tastefully done. As always, Zooey is wonderful and really exudes that Indie vibe! She is perfect for this film. Love her.

Another movie my friend recommended is Butter. Yes, I know, another breakfast item! Like the title says, the movie is about Butter!-- or particularly about a butter carving competition.
The more interesting thing about this movie is that it has a lot of stars in its cast. PLUS-- big shocker is Ashley Greene and Olivia Wilde's make out scene (*oh the controversy!*). Seriously though, I LOVE THIS MOVIE! Again, it's simple but I found myself laughing and getting teary eyed at the same time.

...and finally to cap off the "breakfast bunch" is Toast-- a film about... err, food. Sorry if you thought it's just about bread!
This movie is going to make you so hungry! You have been warned.

I'm so happy to have been introduced to these films. It's like finding that perfect match. Like your heart is about to burst because of that unbelievable feeling of sheer happiness. I knoooow, I'm weird like that. Still, I wish you'd give these movies a go, and I'm hoping maybe you'll like them too :)

Cannot wait for my next "breakfast" film! What will it be? Black coffee? Pancakes? Jam? Jelly? Or maybe something simpler... like Sugar. *oooh, I'm so happyyyy* (and such a geek) @_@

The lawyer within

It's no secret, I've always dreamt of being a lawyer. My dad is a lawyer and maybe it's because of the genes thing but I feel compelled to pursue Law myself. I grew up reading a lot of mystery and crime books and as predicted, my favorite movie of all time is Legally Blonde (doh!). Suffice it to say, I'm a sucker for anything "Attorney-related".

Well, I got a package from BeTv Asia a few weeks back and I couldn't be even more excited!

Erased the lower part of the stamp co'z it had my address on it :P
Atty. Ninin! So cute! My heart went on overdrive when I saw this. *kilig!

The gift is part of a package for Drop Dead Diva's newest season which airs tonight! (yes, tonight!)

In this latest deason, Jane, a plus-sized attorney, becomes home to the spirit of an aspiring model named Deb when their souls crossed paths at death. Given a second chance at life, Deb comes to terms with her new life as Jane, and gradually learns that body size is not the only defntion of beauty. The romantic comedy follows deb as Jane struggling with her new-found intelligence and her feelings for Deb's fiance Grayson; and as she learns to experience love, loss, heartbreak and laughter through new eyes.

Sounds interesting! So, are you with me? Let's watch Drop Dead Diva's latest season tonight at 8:30pm only on BeTv... the place to be! *wink!
