Barbie school

Sometimes when I get so busy at work, I question why I ever decided to enter grad school and then I remember how happy I am when I'm studying and getting good grades and my doubts disappear.

I like school.

School is my haven away from the stress of work. I like being with people and hearing their ideas and sharing mine too. Even if most of the time it gets so exhausting, I would always choose to study as there's just something about it that I find enjoyable.

Maybe it's because school gives me diversity. I can never live a monotonous life and three years in the corporate world can get boring. School stimulates my mind and allows me to widen my perspective and practice my creativity. Being with classmates from different fields and walks of life is also very enjoyable, not only do you get to network, you also get a lot of insight from different fields.

For those who are working and think they can't handle going to school at the same time, I say just give it a try. Of course it's difficult at first but it is worth it-- not just for promotion purposes but also for your own personal growth.

Learning never stops and although life can teach you a lot, there are still things only an institution can impart.

Have it all

Coke Zero has recently released a promotional video featuring Toni Gonzaga, as she embodies how Coke Zero can let you have it all with its great taste, but having zero sugar. As readers of TMF, you all get first dibs on this video, courtesy of our good friends from Ogilvy :)

I'm not a big fan of Toni Gonzaga but I LOVE My Amnesia Girl and her video for Coke Zero reminds me so much of her character in the movie. That's the Toni I like best-- the funny one who's not self conscious.

How 'bout you guys? Did you like the video? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Ti amo, Amici

I've always wanted to go to Amici in Don Bosco ever since I could remember but I never had the chance to do so. I've eaten at their Megamall branch and Caramia in Ermita but I've never been to Don Bosco-- until now.

I'm sure you've heard of them before so I'll skip the introductions and go right to the good part-- the food. Here's our tasty orders:

Insalata di Rucola con Pere e Formaggio Blu
Arugula and mixed greens paired with blue cheese and pear, served with vinaigrette dressing - Php180.00
This was was super good! I adore blue cheese and walnuts! This was gone in literally 5 minutes!
Sorry forgot the name
Blue cheese pizza with arugula and walnuts sprinkled with shaved parmesan

The pizza version of our salad. Haha! But since I LOVED the salad, eating a pizza version of it sent me to food nirvana! Sprinkled some chili flakes on top then started grinning like an idiot. Define yummy?

Since it was only me and my godmother, we didn't order much. But being the dessert person that I am, I just had to go crazy over the dessert selection! Caramia, here I come! Attack!
...because I couldn't choose just one cake, I had to get two. And I also had to MAKE my godmother order one so I can taste it too. Yuh, I'm pushy when it comes to my dessert like that :P
Pistaccio Cioccolato
Decadent chocolate flavored chiffon layered with pistachio filling topped with deep dark chocolate
The sides of the cake even has a merengue-like icing. Chocolate ganache + merengue + pistachio cream + chocolate = explosion of flavor!
I absolutely loved it! You know how I'm a big big fan of layers and textures in my food and this one satisfied my palate 110%! The cake was moist and fluffy, the pistachio cream was not too sweet, the ganache was perfectly made, and the bits of pistachio added the "oomph". So good!

On to cake #2!
Nocciola Gateau
Indulge in hazelnut cream cheese and rich dark chocolate in layers of crunchy meringue
I'm a big fan of hazelnut so this one was a no brainer! The taste is also not hard to imagine. It's like eating hazelnut-flavored sans rival.

Cake #3:
Brazo gelato
custard flavored gelato enclosed in creamy custard and soft merengue

To wash it down, I had a cup of cappuccino. Really, cakes and coffee go so well together! I felt like I was in heaven or something!

Thank you so much Amici for the amazing food! I had a great time! The trip to Don Bosco was worth it :)

Itching for new earphones..

I'm fond of listening to music. Just recently, I've been plagued on what brand of speaker dock to purchase for my room (I'll share more on what I bought in another post). So, as I've already mentioned, I like listening to music. I don't care whether I have to use a radio, an ipod, my laptop or my computer as long as I have functioning speakers or earphones.

That being said, I've never had to buy earphones. I've never been fickle when it comes to earphones. I used whatever came with my gadgets. Nokia phone? Nokia earphones. Sony Ericsson phone? Sony Ericsson earphones. Apple gadgets? Apple earphones. Even when I needed earphones for my office computer, earphones just seemed to find me! My two pairs of 'office earphones' were both given to me as gifts.

Here's one of the earphones I use. Looks a-okay right?
Unfortunately, I don't know how it happened but both broke on the same week a few months ago!!
WRONG.

I've been holding off buying a new pair because
1. I'm thrifty like that (Yeah right)
2. I'm overwhelmed by all the brands I see in stores..I don't know which one to get!
3. It all looks the same to me (but my question is: Why are some waaay overpriced??) and
4. (The Deal Breaker) I can't justify to myself the amount I have to shell out with the way I treat my office earphones!! - Yes, I tend to trip and step on my earphones A LOT because I have to plug it under my desk (that's where my CPU is).

BUT! You know the feeling of having to have new accessories when you have new gadgets?? I've been told that I'm getting my own office laptop before the month ends so that means I won't have to worry about #4 on my list. Haha. That fact makes it much more easier for me to justify buying the brand which has caught my fancy. I'm so excited and happy to share with you URBANEARS.
BAGIS
MEDIS

My only problem now is I can't decide which color and model to get!! :))
Some reasons why I am convinced to get a pair of Urbanears: it has a microphone and remote contraption, size is adjustable and it has snap construction (for Bagis) or ear construction (for Medis)

Don't worry, I solemnly swear that I will take extra good care of my soon-to-be URBANEARS earphones. Yey!

Urbanears are currently being sold at iStudio, Hobbes&Landes, Astrovision and Odyssey branches.Good news, though! Urbanears is about to open a shop at Podium Mall in Ortigas. ;)

Let's skip to the good part

First, our apologies for the lack of posts. The past week has been so busy! I, for one is back in school fighting the unfortunate weather and the dreary traffic in the Metro :| Still, I keep struggling to maintain a balance in my life so to offset the busy week, I dragged my godmother to watch a ballet.

I was ill and had a throbbing headache but I pushed through.
Bad idea.
Worst.

I fell asleep in the theater. And even started snoring.

Really, the shameful things I do! My friends know I'm a big klutz and a total goof ball. My life stories often end in comedy. But in all honesty, I never meant it to happen that way. I'm just a magnet for accidents and is queen of clumsy. Ugh.
I didn't understand the ballet. So sad because I've always found ballets to be enjoyable and it's the first time I fell asleep while watching one. BUT I'm glad I was awake during the good parts-- at least my effort of going there was not wasted. Yeah, like that would lessen the humiliation brought by my snoring :|

Hope the weather hasn't dampen your spirit! Let's stay optimistic y'all! And please do take care of yourselves! No to flu! No to fever! No to incessant coughing and rudolf noses! Have a good week everyone! :)

I can't make you love me (cover) - Leroy

Wow.. Listen to this. I love how raw his voice sounds. His voice brought me back to some of my darker days. Hahaha. I can actually hear Ninin loving and hating this song at the same time because it connotes one of our 'disliked' topics... UNREQUITED LOVE.

Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't

Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power

But you won't, no you won't
Cause I can't make you love me if you don't

Mother's Day at Isabelo Garden Restaurant

It's embarrassing how backlogged I am with my blog posts. Case in point, I'm blogging about our Mother's Day dinner when it's almost Fathers' Day.

My sister and I agreed to treat our mom (and family) to dinner at Isabelo Garden Restaurant in Marikina. They mentioned in their site that a lot of guests usually have a hard time locating their restaurant. We thought we'd be spared from that because we know the area but lo and behold, we missed their street because we didn't precisely follow the directions from their website. Anyway, after calling a friend who knows the area by heart, we were able to locate their street and reach the place right on time for our reservation.

Okay enough babbling about the directions..let's get to the real deal..here are the scrumptious food that we pre-ordered:
Spinach & Artichoke Dip // Baked Oysters // Roasted Pepper and Squash Soup // Cream of Mushroom Soup // Grilled Chicken and Mango Salad // Lemon Shrimp Linguine // Grilled Salmon Steak //
Honey Bacon Pizza // (and the only food that didn't match our other orders) Roasted Crunchy Tawilis

I loved the perfect balance of flavor of the salad, the tartness of the pasta, the crispy thin crust of their pizza, and the freshness of the salmon. Thinking of how to describe it to you is making me salivate! Haha.

Now let's take a look at our desserts..
Watermelon Sorbet // Chocolate Ganache Cake

The sorbet was perfection!! To emphasize how good it was, we finished it in less than a minute and had to order another serving!

Everything looks great, right? Well, everything DID taste delectable! We're actually planning to go back there for Father's Day to try more of their food.
Everybody's happy (and full)!
To cap of the night, Portia (the chef and owner of Isabelo) went from table to table to chat with her patrons and give a token to the mothers. She gave each of them a jar of her special spice rub.  My mom loved hers and abundantly used it to marinate our meats!

Are you interested to try their food? Don't forget to book a table through their website before heading there. It's a by reservations only type of restaurant so please, I cannot stress enough the importance of reserving a table because they really don't let people without reservations in their compound :)

The Seekers

One of the activities Sophia and I want to do with our friends is to go to Da Seekers Cove to have a tarot reading. Well, we tried to convince them but work and (perhaps) the weather convinced only one of them to join us for a session at the cove.

For those who are not aware of what tarot reading is, it is actually more like having a psychoanalysis session. Although you could also inquire about your future, it is not, and I repeat, NOT to be seen as fortune-telling. (You may read about our first experience on tarot reading here)

Our sessions went very well. It's so refreshing to have someone (who does not know you) help you straighten out your life with the aid of tarot cards. If you haven't tried it, we highly suggest you should! It's quite an experience, really ;)

Thank you to our dearest Katy for joining us! And for being so nice as to take our outfit pictures (hehe):

Pulled Pork Burrito

Decided to make some Mexican food one Saturday. I got the recipe for the slow-cooker pulled pork here.

Ingredients for the Crock-Pot Pulled Pork
We substituted the liquid smoke with Spanish paprika.

Got the taco dip recipe from the same site.

THE FINISHED PRODUCT
We omitted the olives (in the taco dip recipe) because no one likes olives in our household.

Delicious!
