Kenkoy-ed

I wore my Kenkoy shirt which Solo gave us last year to put me in "playful" mood.

Unbeknownst to most, my mom is currently in the hospital. I, of course, has been with her the entire time, save for Sunday, when I went home to get more clothes for us.

I am physically and emotionally tired already and to top it off, I have my prelim exams this week which adds to the stress. It really is hard being an only child because you have no one else to depend on. Still, being the perpetual optimist that I am I always feel like I don't have space for self-pity and negativity. When faced with challenges, my positivity switch is turned on and I find myself more energetic and in a way, cheerful. Weird, I know. But I'm truly grateful for this peculiarity co'z it has always been my saving grace.

I was trying to do my "poses" when my dog decided she wanted to play. So I turned on some music and danced like no one was watching!
And because it was so obvious that my dog wanted to dance with me, I let her join the fun!
Give me five! (Oh yes, my dog is smart like that!)

To Write Love on her arms

It was because of Paramore that I found out about To write love on her arms. It was a campaign they supported and because I was a die hard fan then, it was automatic for me to be enthralled by it too.

To Write Love on her arms is a movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide.

It might seem like a really abstract campaign but I think it appeals to everyone because at one point of our lives, we have experienced pain and being depressed and it's wonderful to know that there are people out there whose mission is to give hope.

The vision is the possibility that your best days are ahead.

The vision is the possibility that we're more loved than we'll ever know.

The vision is hope, and hope is real.

You are not alone, and this is not the end of your story.

I almost forgot about this campaign but by some intervention, I found myself back in their website and getting teary-eyed reading about their story and how much  the movement has grown since then. I am grateful that there are actually people out there whose mission in life is to spread positivity. It makes me believe that this world is not so bad after all.

...and that in truth, you're never really alone in your sorrows.

The movement has a following in the States. It helps that they packaged the campaign in a way that appeals to the youth. Their merchandise are the best examples of which. See, there really are ways to make socio-responsive campaigns appeal to the "cool crowd".
We urge you to support the campaign. We also urge you to try replicating what they're doing and become positive lights of hope for other people as well.

May we never lose hope and may we also strive to be that little spark of hope for someone--anyone who may be needing exactly that right now.

This is my current favorite song. It just pierces through the heart! It's so great how a lot of musicians are supporting the campaign. I love you Satellite! You're my current favorite band obsession!

...cause the only truth I've ever known
is that nothing ever hurts us more than love
so circle up your best of friends
and we'll celebrate the way it ends
At least we live tonight.

Heaven in two words

Chocolate. Cupcake. -- yup, that's heaven, redefined.

Boss brought these chocolate cupcakes from Dimpy's and I died! It was one of those rare moments I fell in love with chocolate. I literally had to stop when I took my first bite. It was super good! I feel like words are not enough to give it justice. I'm telling you, I'm not just saying this. Really, this is the best chocolate cupcakes I have ever tasted EVER (and I've tried quite a number already).

It is so moist!--just like how I like my cupcakes!
It also has a bit of caramel inside which makes for a wonderful surprise!

It's not dark chocolate, it's not a truffle, it's just plain and simple chocolate cupcakes baked perfectly. You have to try this. Really.

For the full menu, you may call Dimpy's at 843-8086. For more details on ordering and to read about our post on Dimpy's brazo de mercedes, click here.

Crock-pot recipe: Chicken Mexicana

You know how I'm no kitchen maven right? When I read about slow cookers (Crock-pot is the most famous brand) at Jenni Epperson's blog, I immediately searched for recipes and asked my mom to buy one for us.
Le Crock-Pot
I'd like to call the recipe that I tried Chicken Mexicana..

You need:
A can of diced tomatoes with zesty mild green chilies, 8oz. cream cheese, a can of black beans, a can of corn kernels
2-3 pounds of frozen chicken breast fillet
Garlic salt (or just the regular salt would do)

What to do:

1. Drain liquid from and rinse the black beans
2. Drain liquid from corn kernels
3. Put frozen chicken in Crock-Pot
4. Put the cream cheese on top of the chicken
5. Then put the drained and rinsed black beans, drained corn and diced tomatoes with green chilies in the Crock-Pot
It should look like so..
6. Cover and cook for 6-8 hours on low.
7. Serve over rice or over tortilla.

Enjoy!

Random Raccoon

January's half-way done and God has been kind enough to shower me with a jam-packed birthday month. It has been so adventure-filled that I've been losing sleep (hence the post's title) but I'm not complaining. Yes, I look like a raccoon again. My eye bags and dark under-circles are out and partyin' with me too. Haha.

Anyway, here are snapshots of what I've been doing the first 3 weeks of this month...
Pre-birthday dinner with high school friends at Mr. Jones Greenbelt 5 (no pictures), birthday lunch with officemates and birthday dinner with family (no pictures) and post-birthday lunch with bestfriend
Attended a Fairyland-themed kiddie party and an open-air wedding (while it was raining!)

Surprises abound! I got these two (Blackout Chocolate Cake from Poco Deli and Hershey's Chocolate Kisses) and a special Starbucks breakfast delivery throughout the past weeks.

Went to Subic and Liw-liwa, San Felipe, Zambales one fine weekend and I...

TRIED SURFING!*
*sorry, I forgot to note where I grabbed the picture

Finally got my mojo back and started writing again. Haha!

Got reunited with my Staedtler pens. Time for creative projects :)
So there, I've been busy doing corporate stuff since January 2 that it feels like it's already mid-2012. Haha. My point is that I still find time to sit back, relax and unwind with my friends and family. To cap this post, here's something I found online..it's an old (overused, even) saying but this one has an 'edge'. Anyway, I'd like to make it my 'motto' for 2012..
Not for the faint-hearted

Teenage Dream

Imma get your heart racing, in my skin-tight jeans. I'll be your teenage dream tonight :)

Here's what I wore to the Katy Perry concert. As I said in my last post, I didn't come prepared for the concert, much more planned what I was going to wear. The one thing that stuck in my head was Katy Perry's Teenage Dream. It's one of my favorite Katy Perry songs so while I was looking for an outfit to wear, that became my inspiration. So for Katy's concert, I went as the ultimate chick--the teenage dream.

I know, my shoes doesn't look too appropriate for a concert but I'm one of those few people who are much more comfortable in heels than in flats. Besides, those lace-up booties are one of my most comfortable pairs, I could literally walk in them for hours without pain.
Normally, I don't like being called a chick because it feels so downgrading. But as one of my close friends pointed out, my look and how I do some things categorize me under the typical "chick".

Now, it doesn't bother me that much anymore. There's nothing bad or shameful in looking like a "chick". At the end of the day, it's a matter of respect. If you're comfortable who you are and you're not offending anyone, then you can be whatever you want to-- be it a chick or non-chick.
You make me feel
like I'm living a teenage dream

Manila Dreams: the Katy Perry experience

I've always been a believer in the saying "work/study hard, party harder" so to cap off an extremely exhausting week in the office, I jumped at the opportunity to go with my friends watch Katy Perry in concert.
I like Katy Perry. I may not be the biggest fan but I like the girl. She's a great singer and I just love how she represents the fun and flirty crowd. She represents the girly girls and it always amazes me, how, she could turn angst/depression into upbeat songs (think: hot n' cold and the one that got away).

Honestly, I was not prepared for the concert. It was another of those impromptu things for me so I didn't even have time to do any kind of 'research'. I was even a bit stressed out that day because I also had to study for my prelims this week (I'm also enrolled in grad school). Good thing my friends, who are bit older than me knew how to "party" so we dropped by TGIF for mojitos and shots before the concert.
I don't drink. I like the occasional cocktails but alcohol is something I can totally live without. For Katy's concert though, I appreciated how alcohol elevated the feeling of excitement. My equation for the night was: mojitos + tequila shots = one hellavu great concert!
We were all in a great mood and was ready to party that when the dj came out and played some songs, we started dancing. The dj stayed for around 30 minutes and when he left, everyone was getting ready to meet Katy. But 30 minutes passed, then an hour, then one and a half-hour, then two hours went by and still no Katy!

I was really agitated that time, I was ready to start a revolution! People were already boo-ing (partly because of me), and wanted to leave.

It wasn't until around 10:30 that Katy finally came out. We were already tired and the excitement has dissipated but because it was still Katy Perry, we tried to make the most of what was left of the night.
Katy is so pretty! And she sings amazing, live! It's like listening to a recording. Yup, she is THAT good!
One of the highlights of the night was when she asked a boy to take his top off and come up to the stage. Well, that lucky boy (out of the crowd) was Ivan Dorschner (of PBB, remember?)
He's so buff now! I remember him being so skinny! Boy was super lucky, he got a kiss from Katy AND got to give Katy a kiss too!

All of Katy's production numbers were just WOW. I have nothing bad to say about her performance because she was, truly AMAZING. I'm just a bit disappointed that she didn't engage the crowd too much. She wasn't very chatty, like she, too, just wanted the show to be over. It was a good show, but I say, it could have been better.

Still, thank you Katy for coming to Manila!

Oh yes, dreams do come true in Manila :)
